VFEST, You Did It Again

September 2nd, 2009 by Andrea

Okay, honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect this year at Vfest Ontario. It was at a different type of venue, the weather has been completely unpredictable, and so on and so on… So, needless to say I was secretly a little bit weary.

Now, I know I should never doubt the party that Vfest brings year after year. I can solidly say that some of my MOST memorable concert experiences to date have been Vfest moments. My absolute favourite being the year before last.
The summer-smell was in the air (read: pot and sweaty bodies), the green laser lights kicked in, and out walked Bjork. From the second she entered the stage until the very last note, Bjork had my undivided attention. Never before had I experienced an artist so true to herself. She exuded a confidence that was nothing less than magnetic. I was literally in awe.

I’m sure the hot guy that I was pressed up against for 2 hours and the daytime beers helped a bit, but as uber-corny as that sounds, it was truly a magical show that I will never forget.

This year, I am extremely happy to report that I left with that very same feeling.
Vfest you did it again! [article continues after video - click "more"]

In VID: Thunderheist, Down With Webster, N.E.R.D, Our Lady Peace, Pet Shop Boys, NIN

My V-Fest Aftermath

August 31st, 2009 by Thaddeus

Well it definitely was a crazy weekend.  First time I have ever been to one and I totally recomend it.  This is how I felt the next morning, and probably still feel the same right now. Tell me how your experience of V-Fest went…who was your favorite… did any craziness happened… let everyone know!  It’s just a short video of looking back on my experience on V-Fest, including why someoone licked my foot.

Just kidding, but seriously.

V-Fest is Here!

August 28th, 2009 by D.J.

It’s V-Fest this weekend!

In honour of the epic weekend to come, I’m throwing up some epic performances from the artists I’m most looking forward to. If you’re coming, these videos should get you even more psyched for V-Fest. If you’re not coming, these videos should make your blood boil with jealousy. I’m sorry?

Let’s start with Franz Ferdinand rockin’ out “Outsiders” at T in the Park in 2006.  This is an amazing track on its own (listen to that bassline!), but then they add some serious icing to the cake by having a smorgasbord of drummers engulf the stage in excessive awesomeness.

Here’s Mute Math rocking out their standout track “Chaos”. It’s on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, so it doesn’t really convey how awe-inspiring their live performance is. But I saw these guys two years ago at V-Fest, and they are insanely good.  I am pumped to see what they have in store this year.

And here’s Paolo Nutini oozing sex appeal at Glastonbury in 2007. I have a terrible habit of not listening to an artist’s second album, even if I loved their debut.  Consequently, I have not given Mr. Nutini’s second album much of a shot yet.  But, just from his first album and the one time I saw him live, I know he is going to rock the house this weekend.

Finally, here’s my main man Ben Harper at Bonnaroo letting everyone know that “if you don’t like my fire, don’t come around. ‘Cuz I’m gonna burn one dowwwwwwnnn.”  He’ll be rocking out with his latest band, Relentless7, and I am ecstatic to hear his new rocking tunes.

Let me know who you’re most looking forward to seeing! I know there’s a lot of NIN and OLP fans out there, not to mention the Pixies, N.E.R.D, Grizzly Bear, and many more!

Whether you’re rocking out at V-Fest, cleaning the garage, or working the weekend shift, I wish you all an awesome weekend.

Last Chance to Score V-Fest Tickets!

August 17th, 2009 by D.J.

v-fest1
What’s crack-alackin’, party people!

Today is the last day to submit your entry to win two V-Fest passes! Send me an email by midnight tonight. If you send it at 12:01 am, I will not accept your entry. I am an asshole like that.

And who’s to say my clock isn’t a couple minutes fast? Don’t take any chances, folks. Have you looked into my eyes? These are the eyes of a man lacking any compassion or mercy.

We’ve already had some awesome entries. One entry tugged on my heartstrings a little bit, as it was from a husband asking for tickets for his lovely wife and devoted mother of his children. Another entry was written in the form of a ransom note, with letters clipped from magazines and newspapers. I won’t lie; I am almost scared to not make that person a winner.

What will your entry be? You better think quickly. You only have seven hours!

I will announce the winners tomorrow. Stay tuned and keep your fingers crossed!

Wanna go to V-Fest?

August 7th, 2009 by D.J.

v-fest
I absolutely love music festivals. I would be hard pressed to come up with a better way to spend my weekend than enjoying a cornucopia of awesome bands.

There is something almost mythical about a killer festival.  Just envisioning it brings a smile to my visage.  Thousands of people rocking out, playing some hackeysack, throwing a frisbee, dancing wildly, or napping on a blanket with the smell of freshly ground oregano permeating the surrounding air.

So I present this question to you: Do you want to come to the Ontario Virgin Festival at Burl’s Creek Park Molson Amphitheatre (Thanks Chris)? The line-up includes Nine Inch Nails (on their last tour!), Ben Harper, Franz Ferdinand, the Pixies, Our Lady Peace, and many more killer musical acts. (more…)

Things To Look Forward To (5)

August 3rd, 2009 by Romi

ttlft5

Gd’afternoon! I hope those of you who are in provinces that have a civic holiday are enjoying your long weekend. Everyone else: sucks to be you! Just kidding, you’ll get your chance to mock us.

Happy August! I like August, mainly because my birthday is on the 21st (yes, I will accept your presents, thank you for asking), oh and Virgin Festival is at the end of the month (or this weekend if you live in Alberta!).

So what’s keeping the cheapskate Canucks busy this week?

A Gay Ole’ Time: Pride Festival On The Cheap

July 22nd, 2009 by Andrea

One event that I refuse to miss, regardless of my financial situation, is PRIDE Weekend!

Whether it’s the sweaty shirtless men, the dance parties in the streets, or just the happy and positive vibe it represents, PRIDE is an event like no other! And to top it off, it can be done with little to no money at all!!

Check out this video to see why summer festivals are totally worth going to AND how easily they can be done on the cheap (keeping in mind Virgin Fest hits Vancouver this weekend, Ontario on August 29th/30th, and Alberta on August 8th/9th)!
