I won't really miss you though. But goodbye.

I won't really miss you though. But goodbye.

Bonjour…or Salut?

Sadly, all good things must come to an end and your favourite writer is logging in his last post. Romi is putting together a best of SYR for tomorrow, so today I’m gonna give you my best lessons from my (our) favourite posts and projects as you guys start getting through September. (more…)

It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year

Bag, pencils, ruler, calculator...You can only take two...make your choice.

Bag, pencils, ruler, calculator...You can only take two...make your choice.

Bonjour!

So you know school is back when you see those Staples commercials. You know what ones I’m talking about: “It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” And although they’re aimed at elementary and high school students, we college kids love getting ready for back to school too. We don’t need our parents anymore, we can go shop ourselves!

But here’s the catch, you’re a shopaholic and a compulsive one at that. You want that…and that…and that…and that circular cool techno looking thing that you really don’t need. Yes back to school shopping is essential but it’s easy to lose money so I’m going to give you my own do’s and don’ts and some great sites/blogs that offer the same advice.

When Re-Gifting Is Not An Option

July 8th, 2009 by Andrea

I don’t know about you guys but doesn’t it seem like there are A LOT of birthdays during the summer months!? (Okay, I’m totally just jealous because I have a September birthday and therefore always ended up with school supplies as bday gifts… boooo! thanx mom)

I totally get it though… What better way to keep warm during those harsh Canadian winter nights than to hang out under your duvet and make some summer babies right? hehe. It’s true though! Do the math… ;)

A Sad Week. But the Show Must Go On

June 29th, 2009 by Lucas

Before I get into my money-saving post, I went to express my deep sadness for what a very sad week it was in the world of entertainment. Obviously Michael Jackson has taken up the most attention and deservedly so, but let us not forget the deaths of Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Billy Mays. These were all people who contributed to the entertainment world and my thoughts go out to their families and loved ones.

And now let’s save you guys some cash.

Back on Track. Again.

June 1st, 2009 by Mandi

kors

Hello, lovelies.

Sorry we’ve been MIA for a while. Since we last spoke, I’ve blown a wad in New York on some super cute Michael Kors shoes and a bag that I’m still scared to carry outside because it has so much bling on it that I’m going to get mugged for sure. So I’ve been too ashamed to write. But I’ve accepted the fact that we all fall off the horse from time to time, and the important thing is to get back on. I am back, and cheaper than ever.

We’ve also been pretty swamped watching intern videos and eating popcorn (a cheap snack, fyi) and being a little annoyed that a lot of you out there are a tad funnier than we are, and a hell of a lot more economical. But we’re still excited to announce the winner of the intern search next week, so stay tuned for a fresh face and more kick ass money saving magic.

Anyway, no excuse to leave everyone high and dry, and I hope none of you have fallen off the wagon quite as spectacularly as I did in New York. One shop assistant actually said to me “You know, Bloomingdales isn’t going anywhere. You can come back later.” Bitch.

Tip Of the Day (which I’ve been doing EVERY DAY since I’ve been back): You can’t spend money you don’t have. Never carry more than $20 in your wallet, and try leaving your debit card at home. A true Recessionista should never need to spend more than $20 a day and it will force you to only buy things you really need. If you’re serious about it, try making the $20 last all week. God speed. xoxoxox

9 Tips On How To Survive A Trip To Ikea Without Killing Yourself

April 6th, 2009 by Jeremy

This week Mandi and I went to the ultimate Recession store - Ikea. It was epic. So epic that we decided to film it. We went Scorsese-styles all over it. Behold the world premiere of “9 Tips On How To Survive A Trip To Ikea Without Killing Yourself.”

Check out the full vid. If you’re the impatient type (or just want shorter versions to send to your friends… because I’m sure you will) we’ve also broken it down into a three-part miniseries. We’re just nice like that.

(P.S. Mandi swears like a sailor, it’s really embarrassing. So there are a couple of NSFW words in here. If you work someplace uptight, listen with your headphones in.)
