The Matthews Brothers Interview
I was lucky enough to interview Cole Matthews of the Matthews Brothers. Â Cole was nice enough to answer some questions and give some advice to those who are in a band or are thinking of making a band. Â It really gave me a good insight and was hoping that the SYR Blog Army would think about releasing a demo. What you guys think?

Growing Up Fairy
I’ve studied writing for quite some time now, and have recently tried writing my own fiction more as an extension of my love for the printed word than anything else. Early in my life, I was exposed to fairy tales and nursery rhymes and often wonder the effect those have had on me as an adult: my concept of morality, the decisions I make and my view of the world. I imagine where I would be today had I not been exposed to these things as a child.

TV Bloopers
For as long as I can remember I have been infatuated with live television. More specifically, I am interested in the fine art of television hosting.
My sister and I used to create these “news reports” at home with our parents’ video camera. Our content would involve divulging the dirty secrets of the neighbourhood in our show called “As The World Talks” (a saucy spin on one of my mom’s favourite Soap Opera’s “As The World Turns”). Creativity at its finest if I may say so myself! =)
Either way, after throwing myself into hosting-type gigs here and there over the years, I have come to truly respect and appreciate the skills required to be a real-deal television host. There are SO many factors to take into consideration at all times. From the actual script, camera angles, and lighting to the uncontrollable factors like weather, boring guests, or a sneeze coming on. Hosts have to appear comfortable and put-together, all the while making sure that the actual story comes across in a clear and concise manner that the general public will understand.
So, in respect to the fine art of television hosting I now present you with my favourite TV bloopers of the day. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I find these things bloody hilarious. Enjoy.

Smart Shopping 101

Well Professor Dealzmodo is back at it again. I know I know this is probably my fourth time talking about him, but you gotta love Sean Fallon. This guy just knows how to save money, and not only knows; he explains it in very good detail. My hat goes off to him. Well it seems like he wants to help us one last time. He explains now that school is coming/here you should be a savy tech shopper. I definitely like my tech gear but it can be expensive sometimes don’t you agree? Well not only does he help you cut corners, he helps you be green too. We never want to forget about saving our environment while trying to get to the next level of War Craft (I have never played it, but isn’t that how it works?). He has created an article linking all of his articles that can help you save this fall. I have touched on one or two before but this is definitely a must read for anyone who loves technology loves to save the environment, or loves to save money. I’m sure that covers all of us.

I can’t tell you exactly what kind of activities I got up to, but I can tell you they involved a llama, a midget, and an urban sombrero. It’s a family tradition that many people, most notably police officers and government officials, simply don’t understand. Bookshelf Envy
Worth Every Penny
I buy books. Lots of books. So many books in fact, that at this point, I will probably have to make it a full time job just to read them all. I think I’m more of a bibliophile than a reader, but slowly improving–that is to say, I’m making the effort to try and actually read everything I have. Why do I do it? I don’t know; maybe there is some security in knowing that if I ever need to identify one of the many species of birds in North America, I can because I have the book; or if I decide at some point to delve into the secret mysteries of the Qabalah (or Cabala), I can, because again, I have the book. The recession has slowed me down a little bit, but not a whole lot. I’m averaging a book a week. I probably need help.

Put On A Happy Face
Happiness is clearly measured in scoops and sprinkes
I was on the How Stuff Works site and I came across a list of 10 things that can increase one’s happiness. I figured this is a good way to cheer you guys up seeing that it’s back to school / end of summer time.
Here are a few of my favourite happiness-enhancing things:
Problem Solving: Being able to recognize a problem and trying to solve it as soon as possible will decrease stress and increase happiness. Evaluating the seriousness of a problem is also a biggie because some issues can be overlooked without harm being done.Â

No Job? Fundraise!
Fundraising can look like this!
Well I am a bit tired right now as I spent my Labor Day doing a car wash fundraiser for my varsity soccer team. Non-profit organization or sports teams require fundraising in order to pay for things like equipment, travel, and other expenses. We all know this. We also know there usually are more then enough people willing to volunteer and donate their time to raise the funds necessary to keep the operation operating. Throughout the years I have been involved in many different fundraising events and have learned a few things to help me in the future. Since you have so much free time now that you cannot find a job, go with some of these ideas to your local organization. Always remember that many companies are willing to donate items to help with a cause and to help promote their business, people will volunteer, and the more unique your event is the more appealing it will be. Here are some events worth running:

A while back I dedicated one of my posts to books dedicated to managing your money, savings, blah blah blah. But then I thought to myself, wait a second, kids don’t read anymore! What am I thinking?
So now, I’ve decided to compile a list of movies that somehow include money in the theme of the film. Some are 100% about money, others are more so about realizing that life isn’t all about money and some are just about how shitty it is when you don’t have money. I’ve mixed the up list with comedies and dramas, a documentary and a musical. (more…)
