Funny Videos? Sure, Why Not.

September 8th, 2009 by D.J.

Hey cyber-friends, what’s hip-hop-happenin’ and/or crack-a-lackin’?

I hope you had a terrific long weekend. I know I sure as hell did. I can’t tell you exactly what kind of activities I got up to, but I can tell you they involved a llama, a midget, and an urban sombrero.  It’s a family tradition that many people, most notably police officers and government officials, simply don’t understand. No Job? Fundraise!

September 8th, 2009 by Thaddeus

Fundraising can look like this!

Fundraising can look like this!

Well I am a bit tired right now as I spent my Labor Day doing a car wash fundraiser for my varsity soccer team. Non-profit organization or sports teams require fundraising in order to pay for things like equipment, travel, and other expenses. We all know this. We also know there usually are more then enough people willing to volunteer and donate their time to raise the funds necessary to keep the operation operating. Throughout the years I have been involved in many different fundraising events and have learned a few things to help me in the future. Since you have so much free time now that you cannot find a job, go with some of these ideas to your local organization. Always remember that many companies are willing to donate items to help with a cause and to help promote their business, people will volunteer, and the more unique your event is the more appealing it will be. Here are some events worth running:

Things To Look Forward To (The Tenth)

September 7th, 2009 by Romi

ttlft10

Dear Diary,

It’s already the second week of September. Can you believe it? Here I am wearing my parka and UGG boots thinking a brisk fall breeze will knock me off my feet when another heat wave plagues Toronto. As you may have guessed, I’m sweating like a fat kid in a candy store. Perhaps I should shower. Nah, too lazy. Anyways, Diary, I figured I’d take advantage of this nice weather find some stuff to do outside.

This is what I have in mind:

Art Walk: The ROM hosts free themed walking tours of Toronto areas. This week, you can check out Yorkville and the Annex. I think this is fabulous. (more…)

Coming To A TV Near You

September 7th, 2009 by Thaddeus

tv-addictIt’s September and besides back to school, summer ending, and Halloween decorations appearing, it’s an all-new season for TV shows. Don’t lie; everyone always says I don’t watch that much TV because you’re out saving the environment, studying for school, or working. Well that’s a bunch of BS, because it all goes out the window when you watch a series that you completely fall for and then you wind up like me, watching Mad Men (best show by the way) at 3am the night before a soccer game. Well doesn’t it suck when you see a new show that really catches your eye, but you don’t quite understand because you have missed the first five episodes. I HATE that, so I decided to remind you of what’s coming to a TV near you.Well MacLean’s, yes the same MacLean’s that does school rankings, and prestigious articles on the environment, business, health and media have made a list of the five most anticipated shows coming this fall. I think you should check them out ( I added my personal choice) so you don’t fall behind.

How To Save The World

September 4th, 2009 by Romi

harmony

I have finally come to the realization that being a caped crusader is not a viable career option.

I have no super strength to move heavy objects, nor do I have the ability to turn invisible, scale buildings, or fly. Heck, I don’t even have shark repellent! The fact of the matter is, I won’t be single-handedly stopping forces of evil from destroying the earth any time soon.

It’s a depressing reality check but knowing that I can do something to slightly improve the world in one way or another makes me feel a little bit better. If I can do it in spandex, added bonus.

What can I do, what can we do? Where do we start? We’ve talked a lot about volunteerism on this site and that’s a fabulous way to give yourself to others but what else is there?

While digging, I came across this site called GOOD, an online community of people looking to, in their words, “push the world forward”. (more…)

Free Money for Students!

September 3rd, 2009 by D.J.

Hey, do you like money? I bet you do, don’t you, you greedy son of a gun.

No, I’m kidding. I won’t judge. I’m a big fan of the green stuff as well. Sometimes if I sniff my money for a long time, I start to feel really energetic and have the feeling that I can accomplish anything! I am not sure why this happens. (more…)

My Kind Of Movie Reviews

September 3rd, 2009 by Romi

I love watching movies but I’m definitely not that kind of person who will base my movie-going experience on what kind of reviews a film has gotten. Besides, 5 pages for one movie review? You’re basically outlining the whole plot, play by play.

For all of those impatient cinephiles like myself, I bring you Matadoms.com’s Simple Movie Reviews. Although there’s only a small database of pint-sized reviews, the selection is worth a read and in my opinion, should be expanded into it’s own website.

Each review follows a simple format: If you like X then you will like Y. For example: “If you like Zach Braff’s self-indulgence, then you will like Garden State.

Texting While Driving Can Be A Killer

September 3rd, 2009 by Thaddeus

C u soon, ttyl, lol, are all phrases that we are familiar with especially in today’s society where text messaging consumes a lot of our phone use.  In the past year or so, there has been a growing concern about texting and talking while driving.  Unfortunately we still here about accidents and I even see people texting and talking while on the road.  The Toronto Star published an article about this very popular YouTube video that a british police department created to turn kids away from texting while driving.  After watching it I was completely in shock and don’t plan on texting while driving anytime soon.  Regardless of if you’re in Britain or in Canada, texting while driving can be one of the most dangerous things you can do.  I know your phone is more important then your wallet or even food, but please check out this video and think the next time you decide to text while you are driving. If it is an emergency or time sensitive just pull over to the side of the road. Please. The video is a bit graphic but nothing from a Quentin Tarantino movie. Comments are always appreciated…I would love to here your thoughts.

This time I am not kidding.

The Ill-Advised Hitler Comparison

September 2nd, 2009 by D.J.
I chose to use a picture of Megan Fox instead of Hitler. You're welcome.

I chose to use a picture of Megan Fox instead of Hitler. You're welcome.

We need to stop comparing people to Hitler. Like now. Recently, Megan Fox compared Michael Bay to Hitler, saying “[Michael Bay] wants to be like Hitler on his sets, and he is. So he’s a nightmare to work for.” (more…)
