I buy books. Lots of books. So many books in fact, that at this point, I will probably have to make it a full time job just to read them all. I think I’m more of a bibliophile than a reader, but slowly improving–that is to say, I’m making the effort to try and actually read everything I have. Why do I do it? I don’t know; maybe there is some security in knowing that if I ever need to identify one of the many species of birds in North America, I can because I have the book; or if I decide at some point to delve into the secret mysteries of the Qabalah (or Cabala), I can, because again, I have the book. The recession has slowed me down a little bit, but not a whole lot. I’m averaging a book a week. I probably need help.

The Trouble With Literacy… Literally

Just because most of our correspondence these days is done through e-mail, doesn’t mean that we should neglect to spell properly. I’ve received countless e-mails that have had spelling mistakes–usually made out of haste–but some words are so consistently misspelled or misused that it leads me to believe that some people have never learned or bothered to correct some of these common mistakes. September 8th is International Literacy Day. According to ABC Canada, over 776 million adults worldwide lack the minimum skills required to communicate properly with each other.

Bonjour!

As you all know, I’m an author. When I was 17, I started writing a book about the life of a teenager and continued writing until my first couple years in university. I honestly got to about 60 pages until I abandoned the endeavour I knew I would never complete. So I guess that doesn’t make me an author at all. (more…)
