VFEST, You Did It Again

September 2nd, 2009 by Andrea

Okay, honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect this year at Vfest Ontario. It was at a different type of venue, the weather has been completely unpredictable, and so on and so on… So, needless to say I was secretly a little bit weary.

Now, I know I should never doubt the party that Vfest brings year after year. I can solidly say that some of my MOST memorable concert experiences to date have been Vfest moments. My absolute favourite being the year before last.
The summer-smell was in the air (read: pot and sweaty bodies), the green laser lights kicked in, and out walked Bjork. From the second she entered the stage until the very last note, Bjork had my undivided attention. Never before had I experienced an artist so true to herself. She exuded a confidence that was nothing less than magnetic. I was literally in awe.

I’m sure the hot guy that I was pressed up against for 2 hours and the daytime beers helped a bit, but as uber-corny as that sounds, it was truly a magical show that I will never forget.

This year, I am extremely happy to report that I left with that very same feeling.

Paradise Regained

September 1st, 2009 by George

14 years ago, almost to the day, I listened to ‘Pretty Hate Machine’ and decided that music was something I wanted to do with my life. I was a little late getting into the band, but it would become more of a soundtrack to my life rather than just another addition to my small collection at the time. Years later, when I was working at a factory packaging textbooks to be shipped out to schools, the album that got me through the bus ride would be Soundgarden’s ‘Badmotorfinger‘, but I would always come back to PHM and subsequent albums as my drug of choice.

Movies like ‘The Lost Boys’ and ‘The Crow’ entered the picture and I found myself becoming somewhat of a creature of the night, with a love for amusement parks at night to go along with the music that I felt expressed things that could only be achieved through sound and image. In short, this video is a bit of an homage to some of those little things that are important to me, but what about you? What’s your story?

I think music has the undisputed power to create memories that are unique and personal to us all. I’d love to hear some of yours.
