A while back I dedicated one of my posts to books dedicated to managing your money, savings, blah blah blah. But then I thought to myself, wait a second, kids don’t read anymore! What am I thinking?
So now, I’ve decided to compile a list of movies that somehow include money in the theme of the film. Some are 100% about money, others are more so about realizing that life isn’t all about money and some are just about how shitty it is when you don’t have money. I’ve mixed the up list with comedies and dramas, a documentary and a musical. (more…)
With fall fashion filling my dreams and those over-the-knee boots on the Holts centerfold haunting me night and day, I figured it was time to search for alternate sources of income. Unfortunately as I will be heading back to school in the next week, a job is simply out of the question. So what to do? I figured that somewhere out there, there must be a way to find money for nothing. Perhaps a needy millionaire, or a retired football player down on his luck looking for love and willing to put me on his will as the sole heir. After some self-reflection I remembered what my granddaddy once told me:
Post-graduate students make on average $75,000 a year compared to high school graduates, who usually peak out around $31,000. This is according to an article that explains why going back to school is one of the best ways to increase your earning power in the job market. Recessions typically don’t last very long compared to the long-term benefits that a solid education can have on your potential ability to command a higher salary than your bong-smoking counterparts that choose to ’screw the system’ and do nothing about their current situation.
As you all know, I’m an author. When I was 17, I started writing a book about the life of a teenager and continued writing until my first couple years in university. I honestly got to about 60 pages until I abandoned the endeavour I knew I would never complete. So I guess that doesn’t make me an author at all. (more…)
Jeffery Gitomer is back to help us save the world, one small company at a time.Well not really but if you have been keeping up with my posts you’ll know he’s a genius and a pretty popular businessman. So if you don’t know him, well too bad, get to know him from his website and learn as much as you can from him.He now gives us some tips on what he does with his business and with his money during the recession.I found this great for those of you that are entrepreneurs, especially during this time.I might not have a lot of money, or maybe even 1/100th of what he has, but I know for damn sure I am going to do something smart with it.I am not going to go through all his tips, as there are quite a few, but here are my favorites with some of my quirky comments.
Look at us in our homes with air conditioning, double beds, running water etc… As awful as this recession is, we are fortunate to have a lot of essential needs even during the toughest of times. Of course there are huge sacrifices we have had to make but things could be worse, right?
For most people that live on without money, their situation is beyond their control. Daniel Suelo does it by choice. I just read an article about Suelo on Men.Style.com (It was a link on Digg, I swear). Turns out he’s been living in a cave in Utah for nine years without a penny to his name. He just decided one day that money was too much of a hassle and quit being dependent on it.
Want to save money? Don't buy new clothes and wear the same ones you wore when you were a kid!
Bonjour everyone!
Some time ago, I said I was going to give shout-outs to people at the end of my posts, but then I realized I don’t need people to make me happy. Just kidding! The real reason is because I simply tend to forget things from time to time; it’s one of my tragic flaws. So I’m gonna send some shout-outs before I start my post to my smokin’ hot girlfriend Shawna; happy 9 months babe! I’d also like to send a shout-out to my boy Marty who is moving to Sweden later next month, YEA BOI! And third, I’ll send a shout-out to my old roomie Jen who is moving back home to PEI for a little while. (more…)
I’m making a non-cheapskate move this weekend: I’m flying to Boston to visit one of my BFFs. Sometimes, we need to get out of town and the farther you go, the higher the price tag. We all deserve a little vacation so splurging is sometimes (but rarely) appropriate. I am flying out of Buffalo which saves me almost $300 so there is some saving going on, I promise.
If you do happen to be travelling via winged machine in the near future, I have some packing tips for you as to avoid unnecessary costs on the way to your destination and during your trip.
So my whole two-week birthday festivities are over. It was pretty legitimate as the young folks say. It was topped off with a wonderful co-birthday party (once again, cheap and fun alternative to going out to a bar), my girlfriend taking me out to Jersey Boys (amazing show) and I’m going home to Nova Scotia in late August for two weeks. (more…)
I don’t know about you guys but doesn’t it seem like there are A LOT of birthdays during the summer months!? (Okay, I’m totally just jealous because I have a September birthday and therefore always ended up with school supplies as bday gifts… boooo! thanx mom)
I totally get it though… What better way to keep warm during those harsh Canadian winter nights than to hang out under your duvet and make some summer babies right? hehe. It’s true though! Do the math… (more…)

Derekp I think i’ve seen this somewhere before…but it’s not bad at all
Rath You have a decent blog here. I would encourage you to keep writing and posting as often as you are inspired to do so. In the long run, it will really pay off as more and more people will begin to visit, read and refer others. ProExtender

Theresa Waste less food by taking more trips to the grocery store, but buy less. Plan fresh meals ahead, buy what you need when you need it. Also, frequent local markets for great deals!
