Bonjour, everyone.
My name is Melissa Janke Oliver. I was born in our nation’s capital and became an official West Coaster in 2002 when I crossed the country to attend the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. After a few years of debating the merits of a BA in French, Political Science, or Gender Studies, I decided that UBC wasn’t for me and began my career in alcohol beverage sales.
The ensuing years, though fun and festive (I should probably just say that it was a really long party), resulted in many “What am I doing with my life?” conversations.
I decided to get my $#%! together, so in 2008 I returned to the world of academia to study Marketing Management at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.
While reading my daily 24 Magazine on the bus, I stumbled upon the Screw You Recession Internship. Since it was the only thing that day that was remotely interesting other than a racy shot of Scarlett Johannson, I thought “What the Hell”, and my superhero instinct kicked in.
I will be holding up the Western front for the Screw You Recession Blog Army for this summer, and I am ridiculously excited to be affiliated with anything Virgin… Wait, that sounds weird.
Anyhow.
On a side note, I really like pirates and ninjas, and between my day job and scouring the internet and community for deals and steals, I will be studying their practices for killer ways to kick Recession butt.
