A Dollar A Day

Millions of people work ungodly hours to earn less than a dollar a day. This small salary must feed not just the worker but also their family. Fighting starvation and disease, these families manage to live on and continue working in dangerous conditions. This of course is not by choice.

In North America, there are labour laws protecting us from unethical work environments and low incomes so it’s hard to empathize with labourers in 3rd world countries based on our own personal experience.

Look at us in our homes with air conditioning, double beds, running water etc… As awful as this recession is, we are fortunate to have a lot of essential needs even during the toughest of times. Of course there are huge sacrifices we have had to make but things could be worse, right?

For most people that live on without money, their situation is beyond their control. Daniel Suelo does it by choice. I just read an article about Suelo on Men.Style.com (It was a link on Digg, I swear). Turns out he’s been living in a cave in Utah for nine years without a penny to his name. He just decided one day that money was too much of a hassle and quit being dependent on it.
