TV Bloopers

September 9th, 2009 by Andrea

For as long as I can remember I have been infatuated with live television. More specifically, I am interested in the fine art of television hosting.

My sister and I used to create these “news reports” at home with our parents’ video camera. Our content would involve divulging the dirty secrets of the neighbourhood in our show called “As The World Talks” (a saucy spin on one of my mom’s favourite Soap Opera’s “As The World Turns”). Creativity at its finest if I may say so myself! =)

Either way, after throwing myself into hosting-type gigs here and there over the years, I have come to truly respect and appreciate the skills required to be a real-deal television host. There are SO many factors to take into consideration at all times. From the actual script, camera angles, and lighting to the uncontrollable factors like weather, boring guests, or a sneeze coming on. Hosts have to appear comfortable and put-together, all the while making sure that the actual story comes across in a clear and concise manner that the general public will understand.

So, in respect to the fine art of television hosting I now present you with my favourite TV bloopers of the day. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I find these things bloody hilarious. Enjoy.

VFEST, You Did It Again

September 2nd, 2009 by Andrea

Okay, honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect this year at Vfest Ontario. It was at a different type of venue, the weather has been completely unpredictable, and so on and so on… So, needless to say I was secretly a little bit weary.

Now, I know I should never doubt the party that Vfest brings year after year. I can solidly say that some of my MOST memorable concert experiences to date have been Vfest moments. My absolute favourite being the year before last.
The summer-smell was in the air (read: pot and sweaty bodies), the green laser lights kicked in, and out walked Bjork. From the second she entered the stage until the very last note, Bjork had my undivided attention. Never before had I experienced an artist so true to herself. She exuded a confidence that was nothing less than magnetic. I was literally in awe.

I’m sure the hot guy that I was pressed up against for 2 hours and the daytime beers helped a bit, but as uber-corny as that sounds, it was truly a magical show that I will never forget.

This year, I am extremely happy to report that I left with that very same feeling.
Vfest you did it again! [article continues after video - click "more"]

It’s My Birthday And I’ll Get Free Stuff If I Want To

August 21st, 2009 by Romi

You are so jealous of my glasses, don't even lie.

Little Romi definitely did not pay for that cake

Today, I turn 19 for the 4th time. I have to say, it was exciting the first couple times but it’s getting a bit redundant. Better than turning 22 though.

Last week, Andrea reminded me that you can get a slew of free things on your birthday. If I wanted to, I could get every single meal plus dessert paid for, a day/night of entertainment, AND some free products.

For those of you who have birthdays coming up, take note, and if you don’t, save this list! Get a free meal and let your friends buy you drinks instead.

After doing some digging, I have come up with My Top Ten Free Things You Can Get On Your Birthday: (more…)

I Heart Strangers

August 12th, 2009 by Andrea

As they say, “Strangers are merely friends we haven’t met yet.” I love strangers. I am aware that this video probably makes me look like a total weirdo (or at least a bigger weirdo than is already assumed) but simply put, strangers make me happy. Whether it is the inspirational stranger that gives you some insight to life, the complimentary stranger that tells you they like your hair, or the hilariously “different” stranger that stops you in your tracks and makes you say “now I’ve seen everything” - I love them all. There are days I literally make it my mission to run into a random person that will strike up a some sort of weird, out-of-the-box conversation. While most girls get completely offended by some sketchy guy throwing out a casual “hey lady, how you doooinnnn?” I actually take a huge sigh of relief and say to myself, “phew, I’ve still got it!”.

So my cheap tip of the day: Meeting strangers is free. You never know who you are going to run into. So get out of your house, put your wallet away and just take a walk outside. Life is waiting to happen.

Creativity On Dates

August 5th, 2009 by Andrea

I know we have already touched on dating on the cheap. We’ve come to terms with the fact that if someone expects you to spend a sh*t load on some fancy dinner, then they probably are not worth your time.

But alas, I happen to be a single lady in the big city and I’ve come to realize that it is not that we gals’ want you to spend a whole lot of money on a date, we just merely want you to be creative and put some thought into it.

Subway Is My Saviour

July 29th, 2009 by Andrea

So, not only do we have a long-weekend coming up, (can I get a WOOHOO!?) we also have 60% off Via Rail tickets, some good cottaging weather in the forecast, and in Toronto, a garbage strike that is finally coming to an end! In other words it’s time to celebrate non?
With these kinds of weekends in the works, it becomes very easy to blow money. My Solution of the day: Splurge on a fun weekend, but when it comes to food on the go, just pick up some cheap and delicious Subway! Check out why…

A Gay Ole’ Time: Pride Festival On The Cheap

July 22nd, 2009 by Andrea

One event that I refuse to miss, regardless of my financial situation, is PRIDE Weekend!

Whether it’s the sweaty shirtless men, the dance parties in the streets, or just the happy and positive vibe it represents, PRIDE is an event like no other! And to top it off, it can be done with little to no money at all!!

Check out this video to see why summer festivals are totally worth going to AND how easily they can be done on the cheap (keeping in mind Virgin Fest hits Vancouver this weekend, Ontario on August 29th/30th, and Alberta on August 8th/9th)!
