The End Is The Beginning Is The End

My Myspace page...in another part of the galaxy

My Myspace page...in another part of the galaxy

In a cab; screaming down the road like a black and orange missile. No bang, or shattering glass, or dust falling from the brickwork.  A blog fades  just like a star whose twinkling existence is ignorant to most, but whose light offers a welcome illumination in the darkness. But there are other stars and new ones are always being born and some just grow so large that they swallow whole solar systems. This is what I think about everytime a good thing comes to an end…but does it ever really end? I like to think not. Particles–that’s what it’s all about. Atoms shift and take on new forms; things inhabit other existences, other realms, but they never truly fade. It’s too late for them once they become memories; etched in our minds. “Hey, you were the guy that did such-and-such”; “Yes”, I’ll say, “and now I’m doing such-and-such”. It never ends. How can it?

Follow me on my other page if you feel so inclined. But you never know, I may just pop into existence in the solar system that is Virgin once again. It was good knowing you.

Goodbye For Now

September 15th, 2009 by Melissa

The Bank of Canada is telling us that the recession is over. So that means congratulations are in order: we have officially screwed the recession, Canada!

I think that you should all give yourselves a nice hearty pat on the back. And then give one to whoever is sitting beside you. Unless you are on the bus or in a lecture, because that might seem weird.

Since I am all about saving, I am going to continue on that trend and save myself sometime and cut to the point: goodbye, dear friends.

I leave with you with my favourite Hollywood goodbye moment to date. Thank you, Mr. Willis.

Growing Up Fairy

September 9th, 2009 by George

fairytale-11

I’ve studied writing for quite some time now, and have recently tried writing my own fiction more as an extension of my love for the printed word than anything else. Early in my life, I was exposed to fairy tales and nursery rhymes and often wonder the effect those have had on me as an adult: my concept of morality, the decisions I make and my view of the world. I imagine where I would be today had I not been exposed to these things as a child.

Free Fun At Nuit Blanche

September 3rd, 2009 by George

For the last few years Toronto has joined the likes of Tokyo, Madrid, Rome and Paris in offering a free and interactive experience of contemporary art through Nuit Blanche; an event that runs from sunset to sunrise. The event stays true to its name by illuminating the night with installations from hundreds of artists from around the city; all for free.

Promote It! Withoutabox

September 2nd, 2009 by George

withoutabox

Film festivals exist for the sole purpose of putting filmmakers in touch with a larger audience and film distributors, who can help take a film from relative obscurity, to a larger audience that could help it make some real money. Withoutabox is a service that helps filmmakers submit their films to festivals electronically, using an inventory-free service that saves you the postage, which can go a long way; especially if you’re submitting your movie to every festival under the sun.

Away From You And It’s Not (All) Bad.

Traffic or trees? I like nature!

Traffic or trees? I like nature!

Bonjour!

So I just watched Andrea’s amazing video from VFest in Montreal and I must admit that I got a little teary-eyed! Everyone is probably having so much fun and I’m chillin’ here in Antigonish where my little brother and I have had to kill bee nests. But on the plus side, my girlfriend Shawna and her best friend Jenny got to check it out instead, I’ve gotten to see my family and friends back here and I was reminded of how much cheaper life can be out East… (more…)

V-Fest is Here!

August 28th, 2009 by D.J.

benharper

It’s V-Fest this weekend!

In honour of the epic weekend to come, I’m throwing up some epic performances from the artists I’m most looking forward to. If you’re coming, these videos should get you even more psyched for V-Fest. If you’re not coming, these videos should make your blood boil with jealousy. I’m sorry?

Let’s start with Franz Ferdinand rockin’ out “Outsiders” at T in the Park in 2006.  This is an amazing track on its own (listen to that bassline!), but then they add some serious icing to the cake by having a smorgasbord of drummers engulf the stage in excessive awesomeness.

Here’s Mute Math rocking out their standout track “Chaos”. It’s on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, so it doesn’t really convey how awe-inspiring their live performance is. But I saw these guys two years ago at V-Fest, and they are insanely good.  I am pumped to see what they have in store this year.

And here’s Paolo Nutini oozing sex appeal at Glastonbury in 2007. I have a terrible habit of not listening to an artist’s second album, even if I loved their debut.  Consequently, I have not given Mr. Nutini’s second album much of a shot yet.  But, just from his first album and the one time I saw him live, I know he is going to rock the house this weekend.

Finally, here’s my main man Ben Harper at Bonnaroo letting everyone know that “if you don’t like my fire, don’t come around. ‘Cuz I’m gonna burn one dowwwwwwnnn.”  He’ll be rocking out with his latest band, Relentless7, and I am ecstatic to hear his new rocking tunes.

Let me know who you’re most looking forward to seeing! I know there’s a lot of NIN and OLP fans out there, not to mention the Pixies, N.E.R.D, Grizzly Bear, and many more!

Whether you’re rocking out at V-Fest, cleaning the garage, or working the weekend shift, I wish you all an awesome weekend.

The Trouble With Literacy… Literally

August 27th, 2009 by George

Just because most of our correspondence these days is done through e-mail, doesn’t mean that we should neglect to spell properly. I’ve received countless e-mails that have had spelling mistakes–usually made out of haste–but some words are so consistently misspelled or misused that it leads me to believe that some people have never learned or bothered to correct some of these common mistakes. September 8th is International Literacy Day. According to ABC Canada, over 776 million adults worldwide lack the minimum skills required to communicate properly with each other.

Do Something Up-L.I.F.T.-ing

August 26th, 2009 by George

If you’ve been bitten by the film-bug or just want to get that dream screenplay made into a movie, you already know that making a movie involves a lot of people. It takes a lot of money to make a movie too, but in my opinion, the most valuable resource is the cast and crew that it takes to bring your vision from the page to the screen.

Technology Gets Steamy

August 25th, 2009 by George

Now You Have An Excuse To Pet Your Mouse

Now You Have An Excuse To Pet Your Mouse

Technology has tended towards sleek, streamlined design, which makes it look like, well, technology. However, there’s a movement that’s been going on for sometime, with the goal of adding a bit of romance to the almost obvious form of most technological devices that we use today. It’s called Steampunk, and it hearkens back to the days when showing an ankle was considered hot and if you were one of those gentlemen who needed to pay to see a palm-sized patch of flesh, then you would dial up the number of the nearest bawdy house on a telephone so large that it could be used to knock out an elephant.
