I’m Sorry {Your Name Here}

September 15th, 2009 by Thaddeus
This is not going to be easy for me.

This is not going to be easy for me.

I’m writing you this because I think our relationship has run its course. I also really need more space, I don’t like feeling like an elephant in a telephone booth. I hope you understand. I don’t know how to break it to you, but I had to find something else. You know what they say: out with the old, in with the new! The wise Righteous Brothers wrote a song called “You’ve lost that lovin’ feeling.” You might want to listen to it a few times, because I’ve lost that loving feeling.

Sometimes you need to take things a bit slower, and just have fun. Unfortunately, this relationship is becoming too serious for my tastes. It’s not you, it’s me (and the recession ending). Really. It may be a typical line, but it’s true: we just aren’t meant for each other. I may love you, but I’m definitely not in love with you. You’re gonna have to learn to accept that. I’m not sure whether we can see each other again, or if I will blog in the future but, for now at least, I definitely need my own space. I think you get the idea: this relationship is over.

Wish it could have worked out, but please leave me one last comment below to remember you by. The people here who wrote this for me really captured what I was feeling. I mean every word.

Just kidding, but seriously.

What Have We Learned For The Future?

September 14th, 2009 by Thaddeus

thinkingcapwhoa_color

Well now that you fully understand that the recession is over, now what do you do? Well, unlike those of you who hated the recession because you had no job, I had a particular job speaking about the recession. So guess what? Recession is over and I must move on. Yes tomorrow will be my, as well as the others, last post. On the bright side, we have learned so much from the recession and it is time to dust ourselves off, take a nice shower (now that you can afford hot water) and move on with our lives. We have learned some great lessons that we can take with us for the future of mankind to build a greater society and a greater world…. or at least buy those expensive pair of shoes you’ve been eyeing for four months. Articlesbase.com has an article giving some lessons and tips on what to do from now on, so when I leave you, you will still be able to survive.

Room For Improvement

September 11th, 2009 by Romi

Last week I talked about GOOD’s Harmony Ecosystem chart and its efforts to better the world on a micro and macro scale. It turns out GOOD is not the only organization concerned with putting global concerns into perspective.

The NewScientist site features Blueprint For A Better World. The Blueprint begs the question “Are we getting better or worse?” and seeks to answer it through a series of charts representing different global issues over time. Each chart includes a thumbs up or a thumbs down symbol indicating whether or not a situation has improved internationally.

Looking at the big picture, it seems as though quality of life is improving even in developing countries. (more…)

No Job? Fundraise!

September 8th, 2009 by Thaddeus

Fundraising can look like this!

Fundraising can look like this!

Well I am a bit tired right now as I spent my Labor Day doing a car wash fundraiser for my varsity soccer team. Non-profit organization or sports teams require fundraising in order to pay for things like equipment, travel, and other expenses. We all know this. We also know there usually are more then enough people willing to volunteer and donate their time to raise the funds necessary to keep the operation operating. Throughout the years I have been involved in many different fundraising events and have learned a few things to help me in the future. Since you have so much free time now that you cannot find a job, go with some of these ideas to your local organization. Always remember that many companies are willing to donate items to help with a cause and to help promote their business, people will volunteer, and the more unique your event is the more appealing it will be. Here are some events worth running:

Hollywood’s Top Ten Move Over: SYR Has Another List!

September 7th, 2009 by Lucas
This movie is not on the list.

This movie is not on the list.

Bonjour!

A while back I dedicated one of my posts to books dedicated to managing your money, savings, blah blah blah. But then I thought to myself, wait a second, kids don’t read anymore! What am I thinking?

So now, I’ve decided to compile a list of movies that somehow include money in the theme of the film. Some are 100% about money, others are more so about realizing that life isn’t all about money and some are just about how shitty it is when you don’t have money. I’ve mixed the up list with comedies and dramas, a documentary and a musical. (more…)

Money For Nothing

September 4th, 2009 by Melissa

With fall fashion filling my dreams and those over-the-knee boots on the Holts centerfold haunting me night and day, I figured it was time to search for alternate sources of income. Unfortunately as I will be heading back to school in the next week, a job is simply out of the question. So what to do? I figured that somewhere out there, there must be a way to find money for nothing. Perhaps a needy millionaire, or a retired football player down on his luck looking for love and willing to put me on his will as the sole heir. After some self-reflection I remembered what my granddaddy once told me:

Free Money for Students!

September 3rd, 2009 by D.J.

Hey, do you like money? I bet you do, don’t you, you greedy son of a gun.

No, I’m kidding. I won’t judge. I’m a big fan of the green stuff as well. Sometimes if I sniff my money for a long time, I start to feel really energetic and have the feeling that I can accomplish anything! I am not sure why this happens. (more…)

Promote It! Withoutabox

September 2nd, 2009 by George

withoutabox

Film festivals exist for the sole purpose of putting filmmakers in touch with a larger audience and film distributors, who can help take a film from relative obscurity, to a larger audience that could help it make some real money. Withoutabox is a service that helps filmmakers submit their films to festivals electronically, using an inventory-free service that saves you the postage, which can go a long way; especially if you’re submitting your movie to every festival under the sun.
