Okay, honestly I wasn’t sure what to expect this year at Vfest Ontario. It was at a different type of venue, the weather has been completely unpredictable, and so on and so on… So, needless to say I was secretly a little bit weary.
Now, I know I should never doubt the party that Vfest brings year after year. I can solidly say that some of my MOST memorable concert experiences to date have been Vfest moments. My absolute favourite being the year before last.
The summer-smell was in the air (read: pot and sweaty bodies), the green laser lights kicked in, and out walked Bjork. From the second she entered the stage until the very last note, Bjork had my undivided attention. Never before had I experienced an artist so true to herself. She exuded a confidence that was nothing less than magnetic. I was literally in awe.
I’m sure the hot guy that I was pressed up against for 2 hours and the daytime beers helped a bit, but as uber-corny as that sounds, it was truly a magical show that I will never forget.
This year, I am extremely happy to report that I left with that very same feeling.
Vfest you did it again! [article continues after video - click "more"]
In VID: Thunderheist, Down With Webster, N.E.R.D, Our Lady Peace, Pet Shop Boys, NIN
In short, the diversity of the lineup ended up creating SUCH a cool vibe. On Sunday, seeing N.E.R.D (sexy, sexy, SEXY Pharrell) doin’ their thang within the same few hours as Pet Shop Boys was just epic in itself. You could see people opening up to different genres of music, that they otherwise may have NEVER experienced. Which is always a good thing.
BUT, it was the second that NIN stepped onto the stage that it really hit me. Here we are at Vfest again! It’s just got SUCH a specific vibe to it. Honestly, I’ve seen NIN at least 4 times before, (thank you Mr. Murray) but NEVER like this! It was their last Canadian show EVER and you could feel it. Trent had the audience by the balls throughout the entire set. It felt so extremely authentic and real that I actually got emotional! (I know, I know, who gets emotional over NIN right? haha)
Anyways, I was completely consumed by the show and didn’t get much footage… but here are just a couple random clips to tantalize your taste buds.
Oh yes and if ANYONE has video footage of Trent smashing his guitar during the 3rd song, PLEASE post it and send me a link!! What a wicked bloody show.
Thank you Vfest.
