Things To Look Forward To (5)

Gd’afternoon! I hope those of you who are in provinces that have a civic holiday are enjoying your long weekend. Everyone else: sucks to be you! Just kidding, you’ll get your chance to mock us.

Happy August! I like August, mainly because my birthday is on the 21st (yes, I will accept your presents, thank you for asking), oh and Virgin Festival is at the end of the month (or this weekend if you live in Alberta!).

So what’s keeping the cheapskate Canucks busy this week?

Cookoo for Cocoa—Do you live anywhere near St. Stephens, New Brunswick? Yes?  Do me a favour; go to Chocolate Fest for me. I am so jealous. There are some cheap, delicious, and chocolaty events happening until the 8th like an ice cream taste test contest and chocolate chip cookie decorating. So adorable.

Quebecois Theatre—Saint Sauveur festival of arts is on now until the 8th. If you’re visiting Montreal or live in the region, it’s a short drive from the city. Here is a list of free festival shows. Yay Free Theatre! So this one time, I went skiing in St. Sauveur and every single staff member at the hotel I stayed at was super hot. Perhaps everyone who lives in Sauveur is hot. Is that not motivation enough to go to the fest?

Retro Rewind—I know I keep on bringing up outdoor movie screenings but it’s such a cool thing to do for little to no money! Every Wednesday at 9 at the Harbourfront in Toronto, a film from the 80s is shown on the Sirius Stage.  If you have a fever and the only prescription is more John Cusack, you’re in luck! Say Anything is the movie of the week!

Free rent!—I was reading Toronto’s Eye Weekly and there’s a cool contest going on that I think you should enter. If you’re a renter in the city, you know how painfully expensive living can be so why not get the mag to pay for a month’s rent? All you have to do is tell them why you love your neighbourhood so much. Easy breezy.

Patio Party—Every Wednesday in Edmonton is a Qualico Patio event at Festival Place in Sherwood Park. Grab some locally grown produce from the farmers market, an ice-cold beer from the bar, and enjoy some awesome live music. A summer night at its best!

Van-Culture—This weekend is the 10th Annual Vancouver Chinatown Arts & Cultural Festival. What does two days of education, entertainment, and art cost, you ask? Nothing at all!

Unfortunately / Fortunately, I’m off to New York City this week so I’ll be missing out on this week’s awesome events. Eat some chocolate and say hi to John for me!

Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, I will be posting parts of an interview I did with Jeremy Kroll of A. Farber & Partners about avoiding / overcoming debt. It’s really insightful and informative so DEFINITELY take a gander.

Toodles!
