Bonjour!

So you know school is back when you see those Staples commercials. You know what ones I’m talking about: ā€œIt’s the most wonderful time of the year!ā€ And although they’re aimed at elementary and high school students, we college kids love getting ready for back to school too. We don’t need our parents anymore, we can go shop ourselves!

But here’s the catch, you’re a shopaholic and a compulsive one at that. You want that…and that…and that…and that circular cool techno looking thing that you really don’t need. Yes back to school shopping is essential but it’s easy to lose money so I’m going to give you my own do’s and don’ts and some great sites/blogs that offer the same advice.

(NEVER GET HIGH OFF YOUR OWN SUPPLY)

The first step of buying back to school is just like going shopping anywhere else: look at what you have in your own house first. My family dominated back to school shopping, but often we had lots of supplies leftover from the year before. So take a look in your closet for any never before used pens, notebooks, calculators, rulers, toys, creams…oh wait a second, I got into my personal belongings.

Second, try to limit buying supplies from your school’s bookstores. Listen, I love my school just like anyone else, but you don’t want to be Johnny Schooloverboy and have every bit of you showing off you school insignia. Buy a binder and maybe a pen, but then just go to Staples or another department store where much cheaper.

And finally, don’t go overboard. You don’t need three bags of pens. You need one. You don’t need 10 duo-tangs, you probably need around 5. Unless you’re in business, math or science, you don’t need a calculator, let alone a fancy-pants scientific one because there’s a calculator on your computer and probably one in your cell phone too. So cool down the jets big spender and follow the golden rules of shopping responsibly: make a list and stick to it.

(STOP! DROP! SHUT ā€˜EM DOWN OPEN UP SHOP!)

Here’s some websites for you to check out for more info:
