Last week I asked readers to share their thoughts on what they do to affordably go out and I’ll be honest rather than jazzing up the results, I got one response. Damn, I suck. In consolation, that one response happened to be pretty funny so I’m sharing it here to give props to Phil from Easy Tiger Corp, the company that makes pre-stained underwear. Phil also wins 50 bucks to use on Ticket Trunk so thanks for sharing Phil and congrats.
Summertime brings a lot of things, but one of my favorites has to be festivals. Whether it’s for beer, for fireworks, for music, for fashion…there really is a festival for everyone (and a Festivus for the rest of us!). The problem with most festivals is that they cost money…money which you may not have. One event I went to a few weeks ago costs $3,000.00 for three days! For the record, I didn’t pay it….I kind of crashed it.
But if you weren’t in the crashing mood, the solution to getting in to these things is pretty easy: volunteer. By volunteering you instantly get access without having to pay a dime and the great thing is, people thank YOU for attending! So don’t volunteer to change the world or be a good person. Volunteer for you. Find a major event you really want to go to – the fringe festival, the beer festival, a Virgin music festival (hint) or even the 2010 Olympics - and get your free ticket into the most expensive and exclusive events. Sure you might be ‘doing stuff’ but having a purpose minimizes those constant socially awkward moments, especially if you don’t know anyone. It also might land you use of a walkie talkie which, if my experience with bouncers has taught me anything, is like an instant power trip.
