Re*Gen @ Circa Nightclub from George Panayotou on Vimeo.
When the Veronicas landed in Toronto for their concert at Circa nightclub, they visited Eva’s Phoneix, part of Eva’s Initiatives, which helps at-risk and homeless youth. Yours truly and D.J. Demers were on hand to interview the Veronicas about their experience and also to find out if they prefer the ‘handlebar’ moustache to the Boogie Nights-inspired strip that D.J. has been sporting for as long as I’ve known him. I think D.J.’s charm alone made them converts to the Burt Reynolds, which is what I’m going to call it from now on.
The girls made us feel at ease and even welcomed us both backstage to chat them up about Jessica’s tattoos and Lisa’s penchant for finger-signs. Even when the cameras were off, they remained down-to-earth and open and I felt like I made some new friends. Jessica is a treasure chest of musical knowledge and we talked about music, meditation and keeping a level head when the world around you gets a bit crazy. Oh, yeah, and DJ and the others were there too…
In the spirit of my Heroes of the Recession and just because you’re so darn nice, I’d like to induct the Veronicas into my little heroes clique. I made this video with the hope that it communicates what I was able to see in person: people loving life, having fun and making a difference. Thanks to Virgin Mobile and Re*Generation for making this possible and bringing together great people for a great cause.
One other thing worth mentioning. Here’s a shout-out to Joel, an amazing freestyle rapper that we met at Eva’s Phoenix. He’s the guy in the red sweater who’s giving them a hug. The girls brought him onstage to do his thing. Incredible. Check it!

Interesting and well done, but DJ…lose the gum next time. I know it’s a recession, but come on!
I don’t ever chew gum. Ever. And for some reason, I started chewing a piece right before walking up to the Veronicas and asking for an interview. Rookie mistake. On the positive side, you ladies notice how strong my jaw muscle is?
