Energy Vampires are sucking not only energy but money out of your wallets.
I have been on the search for an apartment for the past two weeks. I found many good places, but then I asked how much was the average electricity bill, and in a blink of an eye I was walking out of the place empty handed. The damn electricity bill was as big as D.J.‘s moustache and I have no interest in getting a second job just so I can watch my favorite episodes of Gossip Girl. Electricity bills suck big time, but fortunately Professor Dealzmodo is back to help me and everyone else out there who agrees with my statement. Here are some tips to help you shave dollars of your electricity bill…
Ditch the Incandescent Light Bulbs – This is a no brainer as changing to CFL or LED’s can definitely save you money for years to come. You can save $40-$50 off a single light bulb over its life span. Yes the bulb is a bit more upfront but remember the thing does last for seven years! If you don’t believe me, when you get a bulb, swallow a piece of gum, and if the light bulb dies before you pass the gum, write the company and raise hell!
Buy Energy Star Appliances – Even though, like the light bulbs, they are a bit more upfront, they can save 10%-50% less energy or water. You will definitely make up the money in a short amount of time.
Kill The Electricity Vampires - Most gadgets constantly suck power even when they are off. You can choose to do two things: unplug your device if it’s not in use or there are cost effective power strips that can control this for you. There is even a more complex solution from companies like Greenswitch, who can re-wire your outlets in your home and the savings in the first two years will pay for the installation costs.
Get an Efficient Water Heater - There are several options here, but forking out the extra cash for a tankless water heater can save you up to 50% on your hot water bills, because it doesn’t store and heat water when it is not needed (I had this type of system at my last rental place). Yes it costs more, but sometimes there are tax credits that you can receive for installing one and it’s good in the long run.
Go Low-Flow - You can save up to 50% of your shower water consumption by changing your showerhead to low-flow versions without sacrificing too much water pressure. You can get the same with your toilets and as an added bonus you won’t have to worry about having anything splash up on your rear end anymore when you’re playing brick breaker (right D.J.?).
In the end saving money and being green is great for you and society. I mean, as long as you’re not too lazy to do some of the installation. So make it happen and even drop me a comment on how you save on your energy bill.  I will let you know though, turning off your lights during those “romantic” times will save you a lot of money, especially if you meet one of those maxim girls getting over the recession.
Just kidding, but seriously.

Thade, I’m usually so into Brickbreaker that I wouldn’t notice if my entire rear end was drenched. And I’m all for the environment, but if I meet one of those Maxim girls, the lights are staying on, my friend.
