My Kind Of Fashion Week

Recessionistas are the new black.

The recession has bruised the world of couture but that hasn’t stopped the fashion industry from using the economic downturn to its advantage. Malls are riddled with recession sales, high fashion designers are coming out with cheaper lines for big box stores like Target, and Fashion Week has adopted a frugal little sister.

Frugal Fashion Week is the newest recession baby. From July 23-26, the trendy Queen West district of Toronto will be hosting a series of events dedicated to inexpensive fashion. Among the week’s happenings are fashion shows, a shop crawl, massive sales, silent auctions, and parties galore.

This is a great opportunity to mingle with fellow money-saving fashion lovers and take advantage of fantastic recession-friendly deals. Also, the week’s proceeds will go to Windfall, a charitable organization that accepts new clothing and basic needs to support the homeless and underprivileged nationwide.

As much as we struggle to find trendy clothing at a reasonable price, people all over Canada are struggling to buy enough clothing to stay warm in the winter. Just some extra motivation to make it out to one (or more) of the numerous FFW gatherings.

Hopefully Frugal Fashion Week will become both a national and annual event because regardless of the economic situation, there’s always room for thrifty shopping!
