Mommy’s Closet

It seems like everyone is sharing clothes these days.

It seems like everyone is sharing clothes these days.

So I was thinking that I should probably write a post just for women. Since I do love you so much, I wanted to show you common courtesy and provide some tips on how to save money. In case you didn’t know, I have a masters degree in fashion that I received back in 2006 from a Cracker Jack box. I still remember the day, my parents were so proud. Well now it can come in handy, as I have found a great article that helps you look fab with stuff that you already have!

Holly Eagleson writes an article that I recommend you check out called, “Five Hot New Trends You Already Have … in Your Mom’s Closet”. It let’s us all know the absolute truth; retro is back! These are a few ways the site explains you can look snazzy without the hefty price tag.

A printed scarf :Wrap it around your head to camouflage a bad hair day, or just tie it on your handbag to spruce up a plain leather style.

Make sure you have long hair, cause I tried it with my head and it didn’t work out so well.

A slouchy blazer: With a simple tank (and maybe your dad’s or boyfriend’s tie) and trousers, you’ll look every inch the sexy gender bender Diane Keaton perfected in Annie Hall.

I must admit a personal favorite.

The romper: The last time your mom wore it, chances are you were actually watching “Romper Room.” So it may need a bit of an update to match the sexy short-short styles out today. But that’s nothing a good tailor and a pair of scissors can’t fix.

Have no idea what this is, but I’m sure it would be hot.

Wide-leg pants: Team ‘em with a striped top for a cute “Hey, Sailor!” look or a flowy off-the-shoulder version if you’re feeling a little friskier.

Pop-Eye needs a girlfriend too.

Wedge heels: Cool blues and kelly greens with raffia or wood heels are perfect for kicking around on weekend afternoons. Upgrade to a sparkly version when you go out at night to channel Studio 54 dancing queens.

Ladies, these are definitely tips to get the boys looking. Now I don’t personally know that much of how to practically use my fashion degree so I am sourcing the information from Holly here. I am really interested to hear how you stay fashionable on a budget so leave a comment and others can try out or try on your advice.

Guys, I know this was intended for women, but don’t hesitate to try wearing the same thing. If you decide to give it a whirl, I strongly suggest you ask your mom first, because if she comes home to find you in her clothes she might be a little concerned.

Just kidding, but seriously.

Good fashion tips! I love wedges especially for summer, great for date nights or going out with the girls! I have to admit, the way I save money on clothes is by raiding my sister’s closet. And if you don’t have a sister in the same size range, I recommend calling up your friends and borrowing clothes from them. It’s tons of fun. There’s my tip ladies!

I stole some oversized sweaters from my dad’s closet actually. They’re awesome and super comfy. One reminds me of Cookie Monster. How can I go wrong?

  4. Giovanna says:

Try your own closet first, everybody.
Go through and find all of the old things that you hate, take a strong pair of scissors and some leather cord and go to town.
    Your friends will be jealous…
