Before I get into my money-saving post, I went to express my deep sadness for what a very sad week it was in the world of entertainment. Obviously Michael Jackson has taken up the most attention and deservedly so, but let us not forget the deaths of Ed McMahon, Farrah Fawcett and Billy Mays. These were all people who contributed to the entertainment world and my thoughts go out to their families and loved ones.
And now let’s save you guys some cash.
My first tip is really for anybody who drives a car and it’s one of the easiest and simplest ways, not so much to save money, but to avoid unnecessary costs. FILL YOUR TIRES with nitrogen. According to author Justin Ertelt, you can increase your gas mileage by up to five to fifteen percent and save cash. The other added bonus is that you can perhaps avoid unnecessary trips to the shop for maintenance. So we’re not just looking to save, but also to avoid! Just like infections!
(EVERYONE KNOOOOOOOOOOOWS ME, MY NAME IS ROOOOOOOOOOMI!)

I know Cupid. He won't mind you shopping after the 14th
Now this is twist on a classic trick for the holidays, but if you’re a hardcore Santa-lover, it’s probably not for you. A growing trend over Christmas has been to do shopping after Papa Noel comes down the chimney for Boxing day prices. Now many people want their presents Xmas morning, which is fine, but for people looking to save cash, it’s a good idea. But you should also consider applying the tip to other holidays. For example, jewellery and merchandise prices tend to increase towards Valentine’s Day, so either get your shopping done much in advance or agree with your lova to send some love a day or two after Valentine’s Day when prices go down a bit. Don’t mind Cupid, he’s an old friend of mine and even understands the economy these days. This tip can include other days like Thanksgiving.
(STOP! HAMMER TIME!)
And finally, this is for students and families living in houses with landlines. Folks living in houses should bundle cable, internet and phone. When I did my BA at St. F. X., the house I lived in for 3rd and 4th year bundled and we saved much more than some of my friends who had their cell phone plus paying for cable, phone and internet separately. Which leads me to another quick tip. If you’re looking for a place, try to find one with utilities included. It’s way less hassle.
(NO I DON’T WANT NO SCRUBS)
Okay, so that’s my blog for this week. I’m also gonna start doing shout-outs to people at the end of each of my posts. So I wanna send a shout-out to my little brother Keegan. He’s 16 and is currently in an open relationship with a Czech girl living in Europe and they’ve only actually hung out in the same place for 4 days. But remember, teenagers know everything.
And hey recession, go screw yourself.
